Recognizing and Preventing Microaggressions in the Workplace

Description:

Microaggressions contribute to feelings of exclusion from the workplace by marginalized people. Leaders, managers and employees often commit microaggressions in the workplace in their efforts to connect with people, to be humorous, and even in failed attempts to compliment others.

This training is designed to engage, inspire, challenge and provoke serious conversations related to microaggressions. The training is a way to educate people on the importance of working together with people from different backgrounds, cultures and beliefs. It will also educate attendees about a new way of describing and understanding microaggressions: “subtle acts of exclusion,” and how to respond if you have experienced a microaggression.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Gain an understanding of what a microaggression is and what it looks like in the workplace

  • Examine how different types of microaggressions impact working relationships

  • Review ways individuals should respond they have experienced a microaggression

The program addresses Business Skills and Interpersonal Skills on the ATD Competency Model.
